The SmartBridge app turns mobile devices into convenient wireless operating units for IO-Link devices.

As part of the new "Best of Industry" awards created by Vogel Business Media, the "SmartBridge" product from Pepperl+Fuchs has been chosen as the winner in the "Automation" category.

The SmartBridge system comprises an adapter (IO-Link Bluetooth interface) and the SmartBridge app for mobile devices. This adapter can be looped into the line to an IO-Link device and enables users to access the data exchanged across this line via Bluetooth for smartphones and tablets. Thus, the SmartBridge app turns mobile devices into convenient wireless operating units for IO-Link devices, and allows them to be used to display device data or parameterize sensors or actuators.

Benedikt Rauscher, Development Group Manager at Pepperl+Fuchs, was excited about the win: "SmartBridge is a product that has been developed with a focus on digitalization within Industry 4.0. It has already opened up real use cases and benefits for users within this complex area. For this reason, we are thrilled that the experts in the field have acknowledged our innovative achievement by giving us the 'Best of Industry' award and we would like to thank them for recognizing our work."

Only companies that had already appeared on the short list for an industry award for a product or solution, or those that had won an industry award, were eligible to win this new award. As part of an extensive selection process, from the beginning of 2014 to the middle of 2015, a total of 34 nominees in ten categories were identified. A jury consisting of editors from German industry magazine "MM Maschinenmarkt" and industry experts then chose the winners in each category with the help of MM Maschinenmarkt readers. Almost 10,000 votes were cast in the online poll. Nearly 200 guests from German industry watched the presentation of the award at a gala in Würzburg.

"The Best of Industry award has instantly become an award for the entire company. Regardless of who eventually collects the certificates and trophies, whether development engineers, communication experts, sales representatives, or the boss personally, every company represented here has brought together a product and market perspective", emphasizes Hans-Jürgen Kuntze, Publisher of MM Maschinenmarkt, while celebrating the achievements of the award-winning companies.
