Remote I/O Portfolio in Motion—Advantages of LB System Make RPI Obsolete

2014-01-14

LB Remote I/O System
The LB system offers numerous advantages compared to the RPI system

Due to the advantages of the LB Remote I/O system, Pepperl+Fuchs will no longer continue the distribution of the RPI Remote I/O system. The RPI system was a well-renowned and successful system. Nevertheless, the application of Remote I/O is easier with the newer LB system.

Two strong systems—one topology

While the RPI system was used in Zone 2 and 22, the FB system covered Zone 1 and 21. Although both systems are strong in their performance, they differ in technical topologies and control system integration approaches. Customers that work in both zones can now look forward to a more comfortable handling of their applications.

The identical topologies of the LB system and the FB system mean that both systems appear in the same way inside the respective distributed control system. Thus, knowledge about two different topologies is no longer needed. Customers that are familiar with one system are able to quickly configure, parameterize, and commission the equivalent system for the other zone.

High density for maximum space efficiency

Single channel and multi-channel modules are available for each module type. The high density modules are extremely thin and allow bundling of multiple channels with only a minimum amount of installation space. Various modules inside the LB Remote I/O system offer 8 channels. The LB Remote I/O system is the most compact system for Zone 2 on the entire process automation market.

Universal modules like the LB7x04 allow the separate programming of 2 different channels types (AI/AO) and therefore the adaptation of the modules to specific application requirements.

More fieldbus connectivity and international certifications

The LB system is built for use with 4 different types of fieldbusses. While the RPI system only supported Modbus RTU and Profibus DP/DP-V1, the LB system is suited for connection to Modbus TCP/IP and  FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1. Furthermore, the LB system comes with a broad set of certifications for use in regions across the world:

  • ATEX
  • IECEx
  • UL
  • GOST
  • NEPSI
  • Inmetro
  • Bureau Veritas
  • Det Norske Veritas
  • American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
